Grata: Celebrating 10 Years

As Grata celebrates its 10 year anniversary, the team reflects on key events for the company from the last decade.
Grata: Celebrating 10 Years

We celebrated a major company milestone recently: Grata turned 10.

The last decade delivered twists and turns that we could never have imagined.

We've occupied different office spaces. Our logo has gone through a couple of refreshes. The team has grown from two to nearly 600. Our product has evolved from a deal sourcing tool to a powerful, end-to-end private market platform.

It’s been a wild ride. And now, as we look forward to our next chapter as part of the Datasite family, join us for a little trip down memory lane.

2015 – 2018: The Early Years

In the beginning, the Grata team — then known as Grata Data — was spread out across two small offices in Boston and NYC.

Our first full-time engineer started in June 2018 (he’s now our longest-serving employee), and we moved from a four-person WeWork space to a six-person WeWork space. Upgrade!

2019: Finding Our Identity

At this point, our main product, Grata Search, went live and our team hit double-digits!

We hosted several team outings (and still do) to build camaraderie with the growing squad.

As we started to find our stride, we decided we needed a brand refresh. We dropped the “Data” and became just “Grata.” As Sean Parker said, it’s cleaner.

So we needed a new logo. After a company-wide design contest, we went from this:

To this:

2020-2021: The Pandemic Years

2020 was a hard year. Still, our team grew — many of our 2020 hires are still with Grata to this day.

A collaborative culture is very important for us as a company, so we worked hard to keep that alive even during quarantine.

We also worked hard. Our two-person engineering team created our AI search algorithm, and we released the first version of our Chrome extension. At the time, our product releases were constellation-themed.

In October 2020, Grata raised a Seed round from Bling Capital, Accomplice, and Alumni Ventures, marking a major milestone for the company.

Our second product release, Monoceros, followed shortly after.

As the world started to reopen, we were able to reunite in person — keeping six feet between us, of course.

In June 2021, we were officially out of lockdown. We moved into our new NYC office in Chelsea, where we would be for several more years.

In July of that year, we released Relationship Intelligence, now CRM Intel. We followed that with our DealCloud integration in October.

2022 – 2024: Hitting Our Stride

This is when we really started picking up momentum.

In February 2022, we secured a Series A round led by Craft Ventures. From there, our platform evolved — a lot.

Our releases over the next year included:

And we didn’t stop there. In the first half of 2024, we released:

We also launched the Grata Scholars program, which is designed to help undergraduates build their skillset for a career in M&A.

But the biggest update came in April, when we launched Market Intelligence (fka Market Research). This marked the next chapter for Grata. We were no longer a deal sourcing tool — we were on our way to becoming a true end-to-end dealmaking platform.

It also set the stage for September, when we unveiled Financial Profiles. This release made private company financial data — the holy grail — available to Grata users.

And that wasn’t the only major transition for us in 2024. We celebrated the release of Financial Profiles in our new office near Bryant Park.

2025: The Next Chapter

And now here we are, almost at the end of 2025, our biggest year yet.

We’ve become part of the Datasite family, along with Sourcescrub and Blueflame. With our combined forces, we’re ushering in a new era of M&A tech. There are so many more exciting times ahead for us, our partners, and, most importantly, our clients.

To everyone who has been a part of Grata over the last decade, we extend our sincerest thanks. Onward to the next 10!
