Grata’s Logo Redesign: Evolving While Honoring Our Roots

Learn about how Grata's evolution to an end-to-end dealmaking platform inspired its logo redesign.
Grata’s Logo Redesign: Evolving While Honoring Our Roots

The Grata platform has evolved quickly in the last year, expanding from a sourcing tool to an end-to-end dealmaking solution. But we realized these changes are bigger than a growing product — it’s a shift in our identity.

We looked to create a new logo that felt as modern as our updates and matched our simplicity and flexibility.

The Need for Change

Back in 2019, an early engineer with a love of design created the Grata logo, using overlapping squares to represent Grata’s integrated planes of data.

After creating the logo in color, we realized that we also needed a single-color version for use over dark backgrounds, colored backgrounds, and images. Created a bit as an afterthought, our tri-color logo felt disconnected from the one-color version. Ultimately, this restricted our ability to use the logos interchangeably on various background colors, which became a consistent challenge for branding and marketing.

Refining vs. Redesigning

We explored a larger redesign (see our favorite ideas below), but instead we opted for refinement. Some iterations emphasized search while others emphasized different features, but they all felt limiting for all the evolution we see Grata making in the future. Additionally, we did not want to sacrifice the brand equity and recognition we’ve built with the current logo.

The first pass at refinement included removing the extraneous dot, modernizing the font, and simplifying colors. However, a copyright review flagged its similarity to other logos, necessitating further differentiation.

Making It Uniquely Ours

To make the icon feel uniquely Grata, we leaned into the letter ‘G’ while preserving the essence of interconnected data. We’ve used this visual element in our previous logos going all the way back to 2016, when we were “Grata Data.”

This new mark blends the past with a modern and adaptable design, and we look forward to seeing it represent Grata in the years ahead!
